Unda
Unda—Latin for “wave”—embodies both transformation and strength, qualities that inform the design of the accumulator tower. In Gothenburg, a city committed to sustainable development, the project translates these values into architectural form. A wave, as movement and as metaphor, signifies change as an act of renewal and persistence as a force of continuity. Sustainability, understood not as stability but as evolution, depends on both.
The tower integrates this duality across scales. Its sinuous geometry introduces rhythm and softness into an industrial context defined by rectilinear structures. The undulating form, repeating yet never identical, becomes a visual manifestation of energy in flux—an emblem of the city’s transition toward a resilient future.
Materially, the project draws from the language of Göteborg Energi, employing familiar industrial materials to communicate its function with clarity. Yet it deliberately diverges from convention: the outer façade is composed of semi-transparent, corrugated plastic rather than traditional metal sheeting. This choice produces depth and luminosity, allowing the tower to glow from within at night—a beacon of transformation and continuity.
Unda thus negotiates between adaptation and assertion, harmonizing with its surroundings while gently unsettling them—a reminder that sustainability begins in motion, not in rest.
